The Knights of Columbus is the foremost Catholic men’s service organization. It was founded in 1882 by Father Michael J. McGivney in the basement of St Mary’s Church, New Haven, Connecticut. It’s primary purpose at its founding was the to provide financial support to Catholic widows and orphans. From its humble beginnings, the Knights of Columbus has come to provide for its members one of the most highly rated insurance programs in the world. In addition local Knights of Columbus organizations (known as councils) annually provide hundreds of thousands of hours of service and millions of dollars of financial assistance to local churches, communities, and youth.
Monsignor Harry Eggert Council 7821 was formed at St. Malachy Church in May of 1981. Monsignor Eggert Council has an energetic program of charitable service to the communities of St. Malachy’s and Tehachapi. Our two major annual programs are our Christmas Basket Program, which provides food and Christmas gifts to approximately 150 needy families from throughout the local community, and our Annual Charity Chicken Barbeque. The Charity Chicken Barbeque is held in September and the proceeds traditionally go towards assistance of a member of the community with severe medical needs. To support our charitable programs, Monsignor Eggert Council prepares and serves barbeques and other meals at local festivals and for other special occasions. Our largest annual fundraiser is selling Tri-Tip sandwiches at the two-day Tehachapi Mountain Festival in August. While we have prepared a broad range of meals, we are best known for our delicious Tri-Tip.
